Hi! I’m Steve.
I’m 70 years old. I’ve been a Christian for about 49 years. Maybe I’ll talk about my journey from atheist to Christian some other time.
After 42 years in test and measurement, and laboratory operation I retired from the electronics industry.
While I do spend a little time dabbling with various minor electronics projects when I wish, my main interests lie elsewhere these days. My KLR 650 motorcycle is my preferred mode of transportation, and it is used year around except when the temperature gets near freezing. Until my retirement, the bike was my commuter. However, it is an adventure style bike, and has taken me on a few adventures. I’ve enjoyed a bit of off-roading in my Ford Ranger, and quite a bit of hiking. Unlike motoring, hiking was year around and all temperature. Sport shooting takes some of my time, and there’s a small plot of ground that passes for my vegetable garden. For the rest of the yard, my philosophy is ‘if I can’t mow it, I won’t grow it’. My bride takes care of the beautification tasks.
Reading takes a significant amount of time also. I’m not much of a fiction reader, though I’ve re-read Tolkien’s Middle-Earth stories more times than I care to admit. Most of my favorite books are from dead Saints like C.S. Lewis (my all-time favorite!) A.W. Tozer, Martyn Lloyd-Jones and the like. In recent years, I have found myself influenced by a number of other, more contemporary authors such as Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, John Lennox, Stephen Meyer and Douglas Murray. I guess the appeal is that for the most part, their ideas have stood the test of time.
From that lineup, you would expect that politically I’m conservative leaning, and you’d be correct. For reference, I consider myself center-right with some libertarian strains. But most of all, I’m a follower of Jesus, and everything I think about is considered in that context, be it culture, politics or society. This has lead to the process of seeking a minimalist Christianity, which has changed many of my political, social and Christian views quite radically in the last decade. I’ll probably elaborate on that in the future. For now, hopefully this gives you a bit of a snapshot of what I’m about.
